“And on the seventh day, God finished His work that He had done and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. So, God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it God rested from all His work that He had done in creation.” – Genesis 2:2–3
God of the Universe, of Might and Majesty, Creator, Author of all lives, speaking your Word, you created the whole, wide, splendored world, in a week, manifesting by your works that even a speck of sand or the tiniest creature, has purpose. You rested from your infinite creation on the seventh day. You blessed the seventh day, made for rest, for contemplation, for meditation of your wondrous works, for adoration of our God and the creation of his Mighty Hands. As a command from you, by blessing and making holy the seventh day, we need to obey and to be so focused on all you have given us, giving you thanks and glorifying your Name, as we take a break from the mundane worldly works performed as part of our responsibility.
Lord, by keeping holy the seventh day, and resting, we are but following your example and instruction. As Christians, we are given a mission of evangelizing and spreading your doctrine, every single day, by living responsibly and through every word, work, action and service. The day of rest you have provided Lord, revitalizes, rejuvenates, and helps us dwell on our God’s blessings, mercies, and faithfulness. It is a singular blessing you have bestowed on us, to celebrate, rejoice, rend Praise, adulation and adoration, to a God who is holiness itself.
Lord, you sanctified this day, the Sabbath, to dedicate and consecrate it specially for the declaration and praises of your mighty works, this separating it from common use and worldly employments, and setting it aside for worship and veneration of you, our Magnificent God, Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient, the Giver of all our needs. We need to spend this holy day, in holy works and in exercising our Christian faith of love. We humbly extol your greatness Lord, upholding your commands and keeping your day of rest as ours, contemplating your glorious creation, and preserving this solemn day of rest, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
