MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 9 OCTOBER

THE 9th OF OCTOBER

SHOULD WE OVERLOOK THE TRANSGRESSIONS OF OTHERS?

“The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression.” – Proverbs 19:11

When we possess integrity, wisdom, and discretion, we can remain calm and slow to anger. Often, anger arises from the need to have things done our way, and we may become frustrated when others choose a different path. However, the less selfish we are, the more tolerant we become of the mistakes of those around us, helping us maintain peace and self-control.

It is honorable to overlook the offenses and unintentional wrongs others commit against us. It becomes easier to extend grace and forgive when we remember that, in similar circumstances, we might make the same or even greater mistakes. However, when people hurt us deliberately or act with ill intent, we should seek God’s wisdom on how to protect ourselves without sinning. Vengeance belongs to God, and we are instructed not to seek it or allow bitterness to take root. Instead, we can continue to love and obey God, even if it means distancing ourselves from those who repeatedly harm us.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me to remember that vengeance belongs to You, and You will judge everyone’s actions, whether good or bad. Grant me the integrity and self-control to manage my emotions, so that anger does not dominate me. Help me to be more tolerant of others’ mistakes, recognizing that I, too, am not always perfect in my interactions. Let me not take offense but respond with love and mercy. When I am intentionally hurt, guide me in taking the right steps, and help me to follow Your counsel. Thank You, Lord, for everything. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen
