THE FEAR AND OBEDIENCE OF THE LORD: THE ULTIMATE WISDOM
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
Even for Solomon, renowned as the wisest man, life presented challenges and disappointments. As he wrote the book of Ecclesiastes, he reflected on his life, recognizing that despite his vast knowledge, power, and wealth, true fulfillment lies in fearing God and keeping His commandments. Solomon’s journey led him to understand that the essence of life—the “whole duty of man”—is to live reverently before God. For all his wisdom and experiences, he concluded that life’s ultimate purpose is to glorify God.
God created us to live for His glory, now and forever. Yet, He has given us free will, allowing us to choose our path. Living in reverence and obedience to God frees us from fear of judgment, as God knows our hearts and loves us with a perfect, unconditional love. He desires what is best for us, yet He respects our choices. If we reject Him in this life, He won’t impose Himself on us in the next.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank You with all my heart for choosing me as Your child. Help me to know You more deeply and walk faithfully in Your ways. In Your presence, I find perfect joy and peace. With holy reverence for You, I need not fear anything, for You protect and care for me. Father, help me to obey Your commandments and live a life that honors You. May I glorify You in all I have and do. In Jesus’ name, Amen
