TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
8 FEBRUARY, 2025
Mark 6:30-34
The Apostles gathered together with Jesus
and reported all they had done and taught.
He said to them,
“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
People were coming and going in great numbers,
and they had no opportunity even to eat.
So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
People saw them leaving and many came to know about it.
They hastened there on foot from all the towns
and arrived at the place before them.
When Jesus disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
In Mark 6:30-34, Jesus exemplifies the balance between compassionate ministry and the need for rest. The apostles return to Jesus, sharing their work, and He invites them to a quiet place to rest. This demonstrates the importance of retreat and renewal in the midst of service. However, the crowds follow, and Jesus, moved by compassion, teaches them because they are “like sheep without a shepherd.” This reflects His deep care for people’s spiritual and physical needs. We learn that while rest is necessary, we are called to remain attentive to others’ needs, guided by love and compassion. It challenges us to imitate Jesus’ selfless care while also tending to our spiritual health, finding strength in Him.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your example of compassion and rest. Help us to balance our lives with service and renewal. Teach us to see others with Your loving eyes and to respond selflessly to their needs. Guide us to moments of stillness where we can reconnect with You and draw strength for the journey. May Your example inspire us to live with purpose, care, and a heart that reflects Your love. Amen
