Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:11
Eternal God, your salvation is promised to all who believe in you and we extol your Faithfulness, for you are a God of unshakeable promises and your word, once spoken, obtains and fulfills everything you have said.. The ‘rest’ you have promised is offered through Christ, Who is the Word, the Truth and the Life. Believing in him and completing our calling, is obtaining salvation for ourselves and the rest it promises.
Your word, Lord, separates what is truly spiritual from what is faithless, or the chaff from the grain. We should make every effort to obtain our inheritance in Christ, the rest, spiritual and eternal, the rest of grace here, and glory hereafter, in Christ on earth, with Christ in heaven. After sincerely labouring, satisfying rest shall follow, and labouring now, will make that rest more pleasant when it comes. Help us labour, O Lord, and quicken each other’s diligence in duty.
Many, through unbelief, fall short of your rest, Lord, therefore we should apply all the powers of soul and body to the intent of our work. This is most necessary, excellent, and important and our wills should be fixed and resolved about it, so that all the duties necessary thereto, and the constant exercise of faith and obedience, be fitting us for, and bringing us into, the full possession of the eternally blessed and glorious rest of our Steadfast God. We ought to cherish a firm and steady belief of these things, and live godly lives, in fruitful completion, thereby, through obedience, following Christ, to obtain eternal rest. Amen
