Know this, my beloved brothers. Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. – James 1:19
Heavenly Father, we come before you with gratefulness in our hearts and praise on our lips, for you have imparted to us virtues of wisdom and knowledge, accorded to us by our conduct and our obedience to your Holy Word and to your Holy Will. You have reproved all those who, through impetuous behavior and impulsive attitude have wronged others, rebelling against your just commands.
Help us to overcome reacting adversely, through strong inclinations of anger and foul speech, for they are unholy and ungodly and bring with them just condemnation. Hasty words, spoken without cause, can inflict wounds which are difficult to heal. Rather, may we listen to the wise counsel of the Holy Spirit, pay attention and resolve matters amicably and with kindness, meekness and generosity of spirit.
Lord, may we incline towards purity of purpose and may we be imbued by calmness and serenity, especially when provoked to anger, praying and with stoic reserve controlling our speech to be healing and soothing, restoring and strong. Just as Jesus taught us, may our patience and silence, our ability to listen and understand, be sufficient witness of our Christian values, to be able to inspire others, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
