“My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.” – Matthew 21:13
Dear Heavenly Father, in a time when the sacred had been smothered by greed and distraction, Jesus entered the temple not with quiet words, but with righteous fire. He overturned tables, scattered coins, and shattered false peace, because holiness cannot coexist with hypocrisy. It showed us that holy anger has a purpose: to clear the space for truth, reminding us that Jesus’ passion for purity is not passive — He fights for what’s sacred.
This act revealed the striking contrast between pure worship and worldly corruption. It is a choice we face daily, do we honor God, or do we chase profit? Lord, you are compassionate towards us and always forgive our human nature and give us restoration, as Jesus did, welcoming the least into His Father’s house, restoring what had been defiled and filling us with peace, in a temple filled with prayer, reverence, and awe. This is what Jesus fought for. This is what He wants for us: a heart that is undivided, a soul that makes space for His presence.
Lord Jesus, You entered the temple with authority and love, clearing away the noise so that Your Father’s house could once again be a house of prayer. Do the same within us. Cleanse our hearts of anything that steals Your glory — the idols of selfish ambition, the clutter of distraction, the pride that profits at the cost of truth. Let our lives be sacred space. Let prayer rise from us like incense, and may joy and reverence dwell where once there was chaos. May our temples never again become dens of thieves, but remain houses of prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
