Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. – Matthew 23:37
Loving Lord, as I read these words, I am struck by Your deep, tender love and relentless longing for Your people. You are not a distant God but one who yearns for closeness, safety, and relationship with us. Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have resisted Your call, for the moments I have wandered away, ignoring Your embrace. Draw me nearer to Your heart, to dwell in the safety of Your presence, O Lord, my Refuge, and my Comfort.
Gracious Father, Your lament over Jerusalem reminds me of how often we reject the very love that seeks to save us. How easily we harden our hearts, choosing our own paths over Yours. Yet still, You weep for us, waiting patiently with open arms. Let this truth soften my spirit. Help me to recognize the ways You reach out daily—in Scripture, in quiet moments, and through others. Teach me to respond with humility, obedience, and gratitude.
Compassionate God, stir in me a deeper desire to welcome Your protection and to live under the covering of Your grace. Like helpless chicks under their mother’s wings, may I find shelter in You when I am afraid, lost, or weary. Use my life as a vessel of Your love, that I too might reflect Your longing heart to those around me. May I never take for granted Your relentless pursuit and may I live each day responding, “Here I am, Lord, to do Your Will”. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
