THE 12th OF FEBRUARY
THE HABIT OF BLAMING OTHERS BEGAN WITH ADAM AND EVE
“When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, ‘Is that you, O troubler of Israel?’ And Elijah replied, ‘I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, because you have abandoned the commandments of the Lord and followed the Baals.’” – 1 Kings 18:17-18
Blaming others for our problems is a tendency as old as humanity itself. In the Garden of Eden, when Adam sinned, he blamed Eve and even God for giving her to him, while Eve shifted the blame to the serpent (Genesis 3:12-13). This pattern of avoiding responsibility has been deeply ingrained in human nature ever since. As Christians, while our spirits are renewed through the Holy Spirit, our minds also need transformation. We must learn to replace our old ways with God’s truth, aligning our thoughts and actions with His Word.
Ahab found it easier to blame Elijah for Israel’s suffering rather than acknowledge his own sin and idolatry. Despite the danger, Elijah obeyed God’s command: “Go, present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the earth.” (1 Kings 18:1-2). In life, we often face situations where obedience to God is difficult and costly. However, the price of disobedience is far greater, both in this life and in eternity, unless we genuinely repent and seek God’s forgiveness.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Heavenly Father, help me to walk in reverence of You, in the manner of Elijah, rather than seeking approval from people. Strengthen me to stand firm in my faith, even when it comes at a cost. Remind me to confess my sins and lead me to genuine repentance. Teach me to take responsibility for my actions instead of making excuses or blaming others. Thank You for Your guidance, mercy, and constant care over my life. Amen
