MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 2 OCTOBER

THE 2nd OF OCTOBER

TRUE FREEDOM IS FOUND IN JESUS’ PEACE, JOY, AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

“Therefore do not let what you consider good be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. Let us, therefore, pursue the things that lead to peace and mutual edification.” – Romans 14:16-19

The “good” we possess is the blessing of freedom in Jesus. It’s essential that we avoid giving others any reason to misinterpret or criticize the liberty we have in Christ. God has given us the freedom to choose, which also means we must practice self-discipline. Our decisions affect not only our well-being but also that of those around us. We are connected to others, and our choices can have positive or negative impacts on them.

Even everyday decisions, such as what we eat or drink, can affect our health and influence others’ feelings or choices. Recognizing that God’s kingdom is centered on peace and joy, with food and drink being secondary, pleases God and wins the approval of others. We are encouraged to pursue things that promote spiritual growth, bring peace, and build one another up. Everlasting values like peace, joy, and righteousness far outweigh the fleeting satisfaction of indulgences that could harm others.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the joy, peace, and righteousness that I find in You. Help me to always prioritize these over any momentary pleasures that come from food or drink. Your spiritual nourishment is far more satisfying and rewarding to my soul. Guide me to live in obedience to Your will, so that no one has any reason to speak ill of my actions as I walk with You. Thank You for providing the wisdom and strength I need to live righteously. In Jesus’ name, Amen
