MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 20 MARCH

THE 20th OF MARCH

TO LIVE WELL, WE MUST GUARD OUR WORDS

“Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.” – 1 Peter 3:10

Our words reflect our wisdom. Speech that honors God brings life, while careless words can cause harm. How often have we ruined our own day—or someone else’s—by speaking thoughtlessly? Many of us have experienced the regret of saying, “I spoke too soon and got myself into trouble!”

Jesus warns in Matthew 12:36-37: “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.” Even if we don’t always pay attention to our words, God does. If we fail to seek His forgiveness and rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance, our words can have lasting consequences. Scripture also teaches us to be trustworthy—keeping our promises and honoring our commitments.

Controlling our tongue is difficult because our words are shaped by the thoughts we allow in our minds and the condition of our hearts. But when we guard our hearts and align our thoughts with God’s truth, we can learn to master our speech!

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Thank You, Lord, for Your Word! Help me to avoid making promises I cannot fulfill or that are outside Your will. Teach me to be mindful of my speech, avoiding idle or harmful words. Guide me to speak with wisdom and purity. Thank You for helping me grow into the person You created me to be. Amen
