THE 20th OF FEBRUARY

THE STRENGTH THAT COMES FROM THE LORD

So he (Elijah) arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God. – 1 Kings 19:8

God had chosen to let Elijah sleep and sent an angel to give him fresh bread and water. How tired he must have been if he managed to fall asleep after seeing that an angel prepared him food, spoke to him, and served him! This was not an ordinary experience, on the contrary! And yet Elijah fell asleep again. The angel confirmed Elijah’s exhaustion, by telling him “arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.” That food provided supernatural strength for Elijah and because of it, he was able to travel walking non-stop for forty days and nights.

We have such a good and wonderful Father who knows us better than we know ourselves and who knows what we need. God is the best Father and does not want us exhausted, not even if we work for the prevailing of His kingdom. We may think that the more we get done for God, the happier He will be with us. But for God, what really matters is the condition of our hearts and to become more and more like Him.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Dear Lord, You always have the best plan! You know what I need and what is best for me. So please help me to not make any decisions without asking You and to not do what seems right to me, when the Holy Spirit warns me that it is not what You want me to do. Please help me to seek Your presence daily, feeding my spirit so I will not become discouraged and exhausted. The lasting joy and strength come only from Your Holy Spirit, who lives in me. Thank You Lord for the Holy Spirit that helps me accomplish all that You want me to do. In the Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
