MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 21 MARCH

THE 21ST OF MARCH

OUR WORDS CAN BRING LIFE OR DEATH

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” – Proverbs 18:21

The book of Proverbs teaches many valuable lessons about the power of speech. Those who “love their tongue” are people who speak often, and their words have the potential to bring either life or death—to themselves and to those who hear them. The more we talk, the more our true thoughts and feelings are revealed. Quiet individuals remain mysterious and difficult to interpret, while those who speak frequently may face many troubles. Even well-intended words can be misinterpreted, causing offense depending on the listener’s mindset or struggles.

Engaging in uplifting conversations about biblical truths with Spirit-filled believers strengthens us both emotionally and physically, as godly speech brings life. Conversely, conversations with critical, negative, or malicious individuals can leave us drained and troubled, spreading discouragement instead of life-giving encouragement.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me to guard my words and remain silent when You call me to silence. Grant me wisdom to speak in a way that brings life and encouragement. May my conversations be uplifting, filled with truth, and free from negativity. Give me the courage to stop gossip and criticism, and lead me away from situations that tempt me to sin. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
