MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 29 JANUARY

THE 29th OF JANUARY

GOD HAS GIVEN US A SPIRIT, NOT OF FEAR, BUT OF POWER, LOVE, AND SELF-CONTROL

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7

The Bible teaches us to fear only God – to live with a reverent fear of not sinning against Him. Through the Holy Spirit, we are equipped with the strength to remain calm, even when our flesh might incline us toward anger or sin. In moments when we feel our temper rising, we can turn to the Lord for help to remain composed, resisting the urge to act out of our carnal nature. With His guidance, we can regain peace and defuse tense situations.

The Holy Spirit grants us a sound and balanced mind, enabling us to think clearly and make wise decisions for ourselves and those around us. Self-discipline, a vital fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:23), is essential for a life of faith. It empowers us to overcome the desires of the flesh, no matter how strong they once were before coming to Christ. Many believers are unaware that through Jesus, they are no longer enslaved by sin and can overcome past addictions and habits.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Thank You, Lord, for giving me the strength to resist the enemy, stand firm in Your truth, and boldly declare my faith, even in the face of hardship. Help me to love those who mock me, stay calm when anger stirs, and discipline myself so that sin no longer has power over me. I pray this in the Name of Jesus. Amen
