THE 29th OF NOVEMBER

THE EFFORT TO OVERCOME SIN IS ALWAYS WORTHWHILE

“You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.” — Hebrews 12:4

In the first verse of this chapter, sin is described as a hindrance we must cast aside. Here, it is portrayed as a formidable opponent we must overcome, even at great personal cost. God has equipped us with everything we need to resist sin, yet we often act as though we have no choice but to succumb to it. If we recognize that the struggle against sin is worth it—even if it costs us our earthly lives—because it secures eternal life in God’s presence, we can break free from sin’s grip and live in true freedom.

Romans 6:11 reminds us to, “…reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” When we choose to follow Jesus, we die to sin with Him and rise to new life in righteousness. Through the renewal of our minds by God’s Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can reject our sinful nature, despise sin, and live in obedience to the Lord.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for teaching me to deny myself and take up my cross, acknowledging that I must die to self daily in order to follow You. Only by doing so can I live a life that pleases You. I love and honor You, Lord. Help me to resist the false allure of this world and stand firm against sin, seeking Your face each day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
