MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 3 DECEMBER

THE 3rd OF DECEMBER

LYING AND ANGER: TOOLS OF THE DEVIL WITH NO PLACE IN A CHRISTIAN’S LIFE

“Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,’ for we are members of one another. ‘Be angry, and do not sin’: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” – Ephesians 4:25-27

As Christians, we are called to live differently from those who do not know God. This includes rejecting falsehoods such as lying, deceit, half-truths, and spreading rumors. We are to speak the truth and treat others with integrity, recognizing that as members of the body of Christ, our actions affect one another. When one person suffers, we all feel it, making it essential to support each other in times of need.

Anger itself is not inherently sinful—Jesus displayed righteous anger at the hardness of people’s hearts (Mark 3:5), and Scripture often speaks of God’s wrath against rebellion and sin. However, we are called to direct our anger at sin, such as immorality, injustice, and ungodly behavior, while ensuring it does not lead us into sin. Resolving negative emotions quickly is crucial, as unresolved anger can give the devil a foothold, leading to bitterness, resentment, or damaged relationships. Failing to address these emotions may even affect our physical health.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Thank You, Lord, for the wisdom and guidance in Your Word. It contains everything I need to live the abundant life that Jesus came to provide. Help me to keep my heart pure and enjoy Your presence. When faced with sin, teach me to handle anger wisely and resolve it quickly, so it does not take root as bitterness or resentment. Protect me from the harm caused by negative emotions, and help me resist any temptation to sin, choosing instead to overcome evil with good. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
