MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 4 JULY

THE 4th OF JULY

WE CAN LIVE BETTER LIVES IF WE PRAY FOR OUR NATION

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-2

We are called to pray for others according to their needs. This may include specific petitions for particular benefits, intercessions where we enter into a close communion with God praying for someone else, and giving thanks for all that God does.

Praying for our nation’s leaders is another crucial aspect of our prayer life. While our ultimate citizenship is in heaven, we still care for our nation and the quality of life in our communities. Praying for those in authority to fear God, be honest, possess God’s wisdom, and have a heart for the people contributes to a better life for us and our fellow citizens. When leaders set good examples, the nation becomes more godly, resulting in increased integrity, peace, dignity, and respect.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Thank You, Lord, for the power of prayer. Holy Spirit, help us be sensitive to Your voice and pray for the people You place on our hearts. Inspire us to pray effectively for those who need help and for those in authority. Lord, grant us Your wisdom to pray for our leaders so that our nation will be blessed. Father God, send the Holy Spirit to convict our fellow citizens of sin, leading them to repentance and right living. Help us all to fear You and live to glorify You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
