THE POWER OF STAYING CALM AND COMPOSED

“A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.” – Proverbs 15:18

When we’re stressed or worn out, it’s easy to lose our temper. But the Lord teaches us to be slow to anger—for our own good. It’s far easier to slip into sin when we’re angry or agitated than when we are composed and at peace.

Taking a moment to step back, to breathe, and to find our calm again is essential. If we bring our frustrations to the Lord—telling Him what hurt or angered us—and ask for His forgiveness if we’ve reacted wrongly, we begin to find peace. As we ask the Holy Spirit to fill us anew with His love, patience, and peace, we’re re-centered in His presence. And if we know we’re likely to face the same triggers again, we can ask God in advance to strengthen us and help us respond in ways that honor Him. In this way, we become peacemakers, transforming situations through God’s grace.

Staying calm when others might lose control has great rewards. We save ourselves—and those around us—unnecessary pain and turmoil. With God’s help, choosing calm over anger allows us to navigate challenges with wisdom and grace.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Father God, please help us stay calm when things go wrong or when people treat us unfairly. Forgive us for the times we’ve ignored Your voice and let anger take control.

Lord, we ask You to activate the fruit of self-control in us through the Holy Spirit. Help us take charge of our reactions and remain steady, no matter what comes our way. Thank You for the times You’ve helped us find peace in difficult moments. Please forgive us for the times we didn’t listen and acted out in anger. Teach us, Lord, to master our emotions and reactions. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
