Proverbs 13:20

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. – Proverbs 13:20

Abba Father, Fount of Wisdom and Knowledge, to fear you is to gain an insight into the wisdom of what is righteous in your sight and to shun all evil, in companions, in behavior and in speech. Wisdom gives knowledge of right and wrong, which directs a person to make choices with discretion and this begets prudence in all worldly matters. Many mistakenly equate wisdom with a keen worldly knowledge, with pride and arrogance, with self-assurance, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Wisdom is a perfect understanding of your Holy Word, imbibing its spirit into the mind and heart, to impart counsel, sound judgment, discernment and power. It does not possess error in judgment, because your Holy Word is infallible. A Christian abides in Christ and Christ in him and Christ is the embodiment of humility, understanding and power. Lord God, Jesus came to save the sinner and to serve wilful humanity. He asks us to leave sinful pleasure, amassing of worldly wealth and attachments and to follow him, emphasizing that the Kingdom of God will be inherited by the poor in spirit.

Lord, we have been forewarned to  choose the company we keep and the relationships we forge with care and diligence, shunning worldliness and excessive obsessions of gaining wealth and status, which are the lures the devil uses to pluck souls away from you. Instead, we are advised to grow in piety and purity. Our friends and companions should be rich in spirituality and we need to avoid the ungodly and foolish, to refrain from adopting their nature of sin and vice, for you shall endow with your grace and the reward of eternal life, those enriched with the moral elements of your Holy Word and who merit to stand justified in your Presence, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
