Psalm 23:4

11 November, 2021

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. – Psalm 23:4

Abba Father, you have, from the very beginning of the life of mankind, been our Light and our safe Dwelling place, our Protection from the darkest crevices of sin and death, leading us out of sinful alleys, into the pure radiance of light, out of fear, into the assurances of your gracious benevolence. You have never left us abandoned, but have had deep and incomprehensible mercy for us all.

Lord, the paths of righteousness lead to you and there is no darkness of evil along your paths, which are drenched with the pure light of sanctification and purification. We seek to tread on these paths, following the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ, with the guidance of your indwelling Holy Spirit. Distress or death is not always fearful, especially with your faithful assurances to those who abide in and rely on you.

The fear of death is for those filled with a sense of guilt. Christ gives us the victory over that evil by obtaining forgiveness of and removal of our sin and complete communion with you, our Father. We submit to your guidance, for we are your flock and you are our Shepherd. We are fearless in your care Lord, for as Jesus, our Good Shepherd, we are safe from all dangers and confidently surrender our lives to you, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
