Psalm 40: 1-2

15 July, 2024

I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. – Psalm 40: 1-2

God of Indefinable Majesty and Holy Righteousness, you are Just and Merciful and hearken unto the cries and voices of your people, hastening to render succor and relief when their call is diligent and earnest. You never ignore an appeal made patiently and in total submission and perseverance. Lord, you never desert or disappoint when we open our minds and hearts to you.

You are our Savior, our Rock and Refuge. Who ceaselessly revives and revitalizes our spirit and rescues us from the pit of darkness and the dungeons of vice and wickedness. You stretch out your hand to help us out of the most impossible situations when we call out your Name in anguish. When our feet slip and we slide back into evil doing, you incline your ear, waiting to hear our voices say your Name in heartfelt repentance.

There are times Lord, when we forget the unfailing promises you have made us and weaken and fall prey to temptation. We sin against our Creator and our Redeemer. But you know that your children have erred grievously and though offended, your wrath dissipates when you know we are struggling to reach you. It is then that your strong grip delivers us out of our misery and leads us to safety and shelter. Lord, save us from the torment of sin and guide and strengthen us, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
