In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. Romans 8:26
O God of Power and Righteousness, Heavenly Father, as your children, adopted to sonship and as co-heirs of the kingdom of your glory, you have, through divine provision and providence, been supplying us with the riches of your glory in Jesus’ name and by the firstfruits of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Spirit knows our strengths and our weaknesses.
As mortals, we have no consistency of nature, thus floundering in our human incapacities from time to time. Our susceptibility to sin, temptation, desires of the world, corruption and our inadequacy to face hardships, distresses and persecution, puts us through daily toils of trial. The strength of our faith and beliefs, the prospect of salvation and the power of our spirit to cope and overcome these tribulations is already within us, in the power of your Spirit.
Just as Jesus intercedes for us from heaven, with the sacrificial blood he has shed for us, the indwelling Spirit, having full knowledge of the extent to which we are equipped, makes supplication for us, when verbal utterance is difficult and thus pulls us out of the throes of anguish. May we develop our inner reserves through prayer, reverence, sincerity and submission, and may the Holy Spirit inspire our pleadings to you, by implanting in our hearts spiritual fervency, in the name of Jesus. Amen
