TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
15 FEBRUARY, 2025
Mark 8:1-10

In those days when there again was a great crowd without anything to eat,
Jesus summoned the disciples and said,
“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd,
because they have been with me now for three days
and have nothing to eat.
If I send them away hungry to their homes,
they will collapse on the way,
and some of them have come a great distance.”
His disciples answered him, “Where can anyone get enough bread
to satisfy them here in this deserted place?”
Still he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”
They replied, “Seven.”
He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.
Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them,
and gave them to his disciples to distribute,
and they distributed them to the crowd.
They also had a few fish.
He said the blessing over them
and ordered them distributed also.
They ate and were satisfied.
They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets.
There were about four thousand people.

He dismissed the crowd and got into the boat with his disciples
and came to the region of Dalmanutha.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In Mark 8:1-10, Jesus demonstrates His deep compassion by feeding a crowd of four thousand with just seven loaves and a few fish. This miracle reveals His concern not only for spiritual nourishment but also for physical needs. The people had followed Him for days, eager to hear His teachings, and He did not send them away hungry.

This passage reminds us that God provides abundantly, even when our resources seem insufficient. When we place our trust in Him, He multiplies what we have and meets our needs. It also teaches us the importance of gratitude and faith—Jesus gave thanks before breaking the bread, showing that a thankful heart precedes God’s blessings. Furthermore, it calls us to share what we have with others, trusting that God will provide. Just as Jesus satisfied the crowd, He alone is our source of true fulfillment, sustaining both our bodies and souls.

PRAYER

Loving Father, You are our provider and sustainer. Just as Jesus fed the hungry multitude, we trust You to meet our needs in every season. Teach us to rely on Your abundance rather than our limitations. Fill our hearts with gratitude and faith, knowing that when we place what we have in Your hands, You multiply it for good. Help us to be generous, sharing our blessings with those in need. May we seek not only physical nourishment but also the spiritual food found in Christ alone. Strengthen our trust in You daily. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen
