TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
15 MARCH, 2025
Matthew 5:43-48
Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies,
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers and sisters only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
In this passage, Jesus challenges us to go beyond human nature and love even our enemies. While it is easy to love those who treat us well, true discipleship calls us to love unconditionally, just as God does. By showing kindness to both the good and the bad, we reflect God’s perfect love. This teaching reminds us that holiness is not just about avoiding sin but about embracing radical love, mercy, and forgiveness.
Heavenly Father, teach me to love as You love—not just those who are kind to me, but even those who hurt or oppose me. Give me a heart of mercy, patience, and forgiveness. Help me reflect Your perfect love so that I may be a true child of Yours. Strengthen me to rise above anger and resentment, and fill me with Your peace. Amen
