TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
5 MARCH, 2025
Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Take care not to perform righteous deeds
in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms,
do not blow a trumpet before you,
as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets
to win the praise of others.
Amen, I say to you,
they have received their reward.
But when you give alms,
do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
“When you pray,
do not be like the hypocrites,
who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you,
they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room,
close the door, and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
“When you fast,
do not look gloomy like the hypocrites.
They neglect their appearance,
so that they may appear to others to be fasting.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you fast,
anoint your head and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to be fasting,
except to your Father who is hidden.
And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
Truly when it comes to our religious duties, it’s better to do it in private as a show of our humility as well as our sincere intention to follow Christ especially in this season of Lent where we are being led to fast and it’s a time of reminiscing the kind of life that we lived here on earth whether we are fruitful or have done unnecessary things that made the Most Sacred Heart of our Lord bleeds. That is the reason why this Gospel today is so important for it informs us about charity that must be done in private, same when we pray for in this way Jesus is so delighted with us.
Truly, when we speak of our authenticity as a true Christian it always starts with this great virtue humility which is the virtue of Christ He shown to us when He was still here on earth that despite of being the God of all creations yet He embraced His Cross and died for humanity to be saved. Lastly, prayer will always be the remedy in every trouble that we encounter yet doing it from the heart with fasting and penance is a must, especially when it is done with great love.
PRAYER
Day by day I gain more strength oh God and it is due to your unfathomable love and mercy, yet everything will be perfect if I obey your instructions. Your Words are life that bring transformation to an individual so please let me listen to you and set aside the things that bother me. May Jesus Christ always be praised. Amen
