MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 19 SEPTEMBER

THE 19th OF SEPTEMBER

THE WEIGHT OF WILLFUL SIN

“For if we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?”
Hebrews 10:26-29

When someone, who knows the truth and has been saved, chooses to turn away from Jesus and return to a life of sin, there is no further forgiveness available to them while they continue to reject Christ. This is a matter of life and death. However, for those who sincerely repent and turn back to the Lord with all their heart, salvation is still possible. The price that the enemy demands while living in sin and serving him is incredibly steep. There is no sinful pleasure worth the agony and hopelessness it brings.

What greater punishment does one deserve for abandoning the cross because they love sin more than the Savior who died in their place? To forsake Jesus, disregard the blood of the covenant, and insult the Holy Spirit and God’s grace is a grave offense. We must constantly guard our thoughts, decisions, desires, words, and actions. It is our responsibility to stay in Christ and keep Him within us, for we have the power to choose. As long as we choose to love God, live righteously, and maintain a pure heart, we are blessed, and our salvation is secure. If you have turned away from Jesus but want to return, it is not too late.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Thank You, Jesus, from the depths of my heart, for saving me! Help me to maintain a grateful heart so that I will never be tempted to return to a life of sin. I want to be with You forever. The peace and joy I’ve found in You are beyond anything I’ve ever known. Reflecting on how You suffered out of love for me humbles me and deepens my love for You. Lord, help me always remember that You desire the best for me, and as long as I follow You, I am never alone because You provide for me and care for me. Glory and praise to Your Holy Name forever. Amen
