THE 8th OF JULY
THE LORD HAS GIVEN US ALL WE NEED TO OVERCOME TEMPTATIONS
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
Living in this world, we face numerous temptations stemming from our carnal nature, the world around us, or the enemy. Regardless of their source, God ensures that no temptation is too strong for us to resist. Indulgence only strengthens our carnal desires, so we benefit greatly when we exercise self-control, which is possible because the Holy Spirit resides in our hearts once we are born again.
God allows us to encounter temptations through various circumstances but always provides a way to escape them. It is our responsibility to choose not to succumb. God is compassionate, trustworthy, and keeps all His promises. By living obediently, loving, and worshiping Him, we can joyfully overcome every temptation because He has already prepared our escape. Though God does not force us to take the way out, as long as we desire to remain true to Him, we will be able to conquer temptation and celebrate our victory.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Heavenly Father, help me always to love and obey You. I want to be Yours forever. Help me recognize and escape the lies and temptations of the enemy using the way out You provide. Thank You for the victories I’ve already had in You. Please help me remain in You and follow Your ways. Increase my hunger and thirst for more of You, so that nothing else will be truly tempting. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
