Psalm 27: 7-9a

27 August, 2020

Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me. Psalm 27:7–9a

Heed the fervent cries of your bereft people, O Gracious God, on Whose Word the world acts and waits upon, Whose word can perish or raise us mortals. You, Lord, by your tender mercy, empowered us to beckon you at will, to receive your beneficence and deliverance from worldly snares. You gave us holy sanction to the throne of grace by prayer, by the workings of your Powerful Spirit, by your unchanging Word, by worship, and by special providences. Your love has no conditions and no duplication. But our devious human nature with its vanities and addictions to worldly pleasures has made us impervious to your warnings and exhortations. Your justice is unblemished and your judgment righteous in abandoning us, leaving us devoid of your Presence. We remorsefully acknowledge that our false egos and sense of power in our self-sufficiency has reduced us to an appalling state of degradation. With contrite hearts we turn our faltering steps to you, conscious of our helplessness and seek the benefit of your unfailing Divine guidance, protection, and steadfastness when there’s no other recourse. We firmly resolve by upright conduct to merit the hope of being ushered into the realm of a life of eternal glory, and in faith beholding your beatific countenance, in Jesus’ Name, we  trust. Amen
