TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
12 MARCH, 2025
Luke 11:29-32

While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them,
“This generation is an evil generation;
it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it,
except the sign of Jonah.
Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,
so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment
the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation
and she will condemn them,
because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon,
and there is something greater than Solomon here.
At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation
and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah they repented,
and there is something greater than Jonah here.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

When we speak of Jonah, he was a great prophet who disobeyed God’s command, and went on his way just to escape the mission entrusted to him. We can compare Jonah to the people of that time and onwards, for due to the power of evil that is arising, people love to embrace what is contrary to the Divine Will of God. As a result more wickedness had arisen which led humanity to accept the mark of the devil. However, if we only listen to what our Lord speaks in this Gospel, truly there will be hope.
The Gospel leads us to realize how great is the love of God our Father, that He allowed His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, the second person of the Most Holy Trinity to die for humanity to be saved. Indeed, just like Jonah who was spared, Jesus saved us from sins and everything was accomplished, yet we have to offer the effort to be worthy to enter heaven by coming to Him with humility and do everything that is pleasing to Him. Jesus came for humanity to be saved and through His crucifixion on the Cross humanity will enter heaven, but we have to accept Him as our Lord and Savior, obey His will and His Commandments.

PRAYER

Merciful God, grant me a humble and contrite heart, that is obedient to your will. As I am enlightened with the Scripture of today, I reflect on Jesus’ death on the Cross which is a sign of your unfathomable love for us. Help me, Lord, to persevere in these crucial days as I labour to keep my faith strong, through the teachings of your church. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
