TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
21 FEBRUARY, 2025
Mark 8:34—9:1

Jesus summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them,
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake
and that of the Gospel will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
and forfeit his life?
What could one give in exchange for his life?
Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words
in this faithless and sinful generation,
the Son of Man will be ashamed of
when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

He also said to them,
“Amen, I say to you,
there are some standing here who will not taste death
until they see that the Kingdom of God has come in power.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, Jesus calls His followers to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. He reminds us that true life is not found in worldly gain but in surrendering to God’s will. This challenges us to examine our priorities—are we living for ourselves or for Christ? The promise of His coming kingdom encourages us to remain faithful, knowing that our sacrifices for Him are not in vain. Let us persevere in our faith and focus on the well-being of our soul, and so obtain eternal rewards.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, help me to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow You wholeheartedly. Give me the strength to trust in Your plan, even when it is difficult. May I live not for worldly gain, but for Your eternal kingdom. Strengthen my faith and make me a witness of Your truth. Amen
