TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
26 FEBRUARY, 2025
Mark 9:38-40
John said to Jesus,
“Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name,
and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.”
Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him.
There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name
who can at the same time speak ill of me.
For whoever is not against us is for us.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
Mark 9:38-40 tells the story of John reporting to Jesus that someone was casting out demons in His name, yet they tried to stop him because he wasn’t part of their group. Jesus responds, “Do not stop him… For whoever is not against us is for us.”
This passage reminds us that God’s work is not limited to a single group or denomination. It challenges us to let go of exclusivity and embrace unity in Christ. The kingdom of God is bigger than personal affiliations, and those who work in Jesus’ name, even outside our immediate circles, are still part of His mission. It calls us to celebrate the good others do in His name rather than being territorial or judgmental. How does this speak to you personally?
PRAYER
Our Gracious, Merciful, Almighty God, Compassionate Father, we reflect today on Jesus’ words about those who are not against us being for us. Help us to understand that your kingdom is not limited to our own communities or denominations. Give us a heart of unity and a spirit of cooperation. May we recognize and celebrate the good work that others are doing in your Holy Name. Amen
