TODAY’S GOSPEL READING – 8 MARCH

TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
8 MARCH, 2025
Luke 5:27-32

Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post.

He said to him, “Follow me.”
And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.
Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house,
and a large crowd of tax collectors
and others were at table with them.
The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying,
“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, Jesus calls Levi, a tax collector, to follow Him. Despite being considered a sinner by society, Levi immediately leaves everything behind and follows Jesus. Later, Jesus dines with tax collectors and sinners, which angers the Pharisees. Jesus responds, saying, *“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”*

This passage reminds us that Jesus seeks out those who are lost, broken, and in need of grace. He does not call the perfect but those willing to be transformed. It challenges us to examine our own hearts—are we willing to respond to His call like Levi? Are we showing grace to others, just as Jesus does?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your boundless love and mercy. You call us not because we are perfect, but because You desire to heal and restore us. Help us to follow You wholeheartedly, leaving behind anything that keeps us from You. May we extend the same grace to others, welcoming them with love rather than judgment. Teach us to see with Your eyes and love with Your heart. Amen
